We lost our 2-year-old pup Bentley towards the end of July after a struggle that turned out to be a rare cancer. We rescued Bentley locally from a situation where he was a baby Chiuauaua surrounded by eight pit bulls. A few months later, we rescued his big brother Beauden, a GSP/Hound mix who came to a rescue agency on the day he was scheduled to be euthanized. Almost immediately, they bonded despite their difference in size and energy levels.
Since Bentley has been gone, Beaux has had bouts of reestablishing his own identity without his brother and, at other times, visibly showing grief. However, today, I was caught off guard when I walked outside to check on him, and he was sitting just like his brother used to always sit. We never could figure out why Bentley used to sit this way, but Beaux never sat like this in front of us.
